ISDN SWITCH OFF
If your phone system is currently based upon either ISDN2 or ISDN30 you may have some questions concerning the ISDN Switch off.
Should we panic?
Not yet- the phase out is just starting and due to complete within the next 5 years so the time to plan and migrate is available but there are some considerations in the meantime.
What if I need some new or extra lines?
Investing in more lines and potentially additional equipment or licences for ISDN will be dead money. It may, depending on your connection and need require further physical installation, lead in times and larger costs.
IP based connectivity whether via “SIP Trunks” or Hosted Cloud Services allow for easily scalable growth, attractive, often free call bundles and greater flexibility over numbers and their locations.
Will I need to throw my existing phone system away?
This is unlikely. Most recent systems allow for the provision of SIP Trunks or alternatively, if you have older equipment, there are interfaces that allow for the provision of IP Circuits, however this may be a moment to consider what savings can be made and the wide range of improved services available.
What do I need for IP connectivity?
Phone calls made using VoIP require a suitable data connection on which to be made. This can range from Broadband to Leased lines, fibre connections or the data connection on a mobile phone. Which is the best method for your organisation will vary on a case to case basis but at Octagon we have extensive experience in working with all sorts or organisations to assess and provide the best fit for you.
